What Katy Did

What Katy Did
I loved the Anne of Green Gables series so much that I just had to have this movie. I find it a soft movie, kind and uplifting, sad and loving, funny at times and a great family movie. It just goes to show that you don't have to give up on life if there is a will in your heart and you have someone to share it with. I thought it was great.

It was what I expected
I had not seen the movie before, but I expected it to be similar to Anne of Green Gables, and it was. For me, this was a good thing, because I also enjoyed Anne of Green Gables - so the movie met my expectations.

Another great movie
I'm very happy that we have found Canadian television and movies. This movie is just another good example of a wonderful family movie we can all enjoy together without worrying what will happen on the screen that may be offensive to our children. In addition, the life lessons are good.

Lost Medallion

"A little bit scary... funny and lots of action..."
A decently filmed and interesting kid's adventure fantasy that offers a message of doing the right thing, helping others and working together. They've added to the original text Alex Kendrick(Fireproof) inserts which emphasizes the message and God's love for us.

Daniel Anderson(Kendrick) starts the story with visiting a foster home. He tells the kids there a tale about Billy Stone(Billy Unger) and his discovery of a magical medallion sought by dark forces. In the midst of danger, Billy uses the medallion to travel back into time to an island struggling with a warlord who enslaves the people. It's a battle of good and evil, as Billy must seek help from unlikely friends.

Shot in beautiful island scenery and rainforest(the best part of the movie), the Dove approved flick shows a lot of potential. There's an orphan girl(Sammi Hanratty from American girl fame) who assists Billy. The acting, music, directing are fine. The kids zipline, jump off waterfalls, canoe...

Well...it's a kid's movie, I guess
This movie is visually well done and professional-looking, but the plot is rather unbelievable and it's very cliche-ridden. (The villain's name is King Cobra? Really?)

It's not nearly as overtly Christian as Sherwood films like Fireproof or Courageous, but they do reference God and say a few things which sound rather Christian (though also some things that don't - at one point they said "the answer is INSIDE you" or something like that). So if you like to avoid preachiness, you'll probably appreciate that...but you won't appreciate the story.

If you're looking for some Christian entertainment that's well-written and edifies all ages, try the Torchlighters series. They're animated, and the animation isn't exactly exceptional, but story-wise they're MUCH better than this. Also, they're very overtly Christian.

I'm sorry that wasn't very informative. I'll just leave you with this...if you're not a kid, or not showing this to a kid, I would borrow it from a...

Great family movie - we need more like it!
Loved the film-grand kids loved it. We need more like this! It was engaging, fast paced and had a very good lesson to communicate.
